During our trip, as I was checking for restaurants close to our accommodation, I found this cave bar, which was only five minutes away and looked new (indeed it was, at that time). It's called Yama Japanese Cave Bar.

If you're heading to Puerto Princesa and are working on your list of places to visit, I highly recommend this spot. It's inside Princesa Garden Island Resort. You can even book your room here if you've got the budget. It looks way better in person than in the photos listed online. It's a gorgeous resort that's only less than 20 minutes away from the airport.

Location | Where to find Yama

Address

Princesa Garden Island Resort & Spa, Barangay Caniguiran, Puerto Princesa, Palawan

You can find Yama inside Princesa Garden Island Resort. It's on the 8th level of the hotel building near the pool in their Ocean Wing. Once you arrive on that floor, turn left when you see this (see photo below).

How to get there

It is better to book a ride using the Palawan Backride application to avoid getting ripped off. The rates are reasonable, and you can also choose from various vehicles like motorcycles, tricycles, and cars.

What we Ordered | Yama Japanese Cave Bar

It took us time to order because they had a lot of options on their menu (all of which looked delicious), but we ended up getting noodles and sushi. I ordered the Set 3 Sashimi, while my husband went for the Nabeyaki Udon.

We also tried one of their maki sushi rolls in case we were still hungry.

Here’s what we ordered:

  • Dragon Eye Ball Rolls

  • Set 3 Sashimi

  • Nabeyaki Udon

  • Jameson Irish Whiskey

  • Citrus Freeze Mocktail

The Nabeyaki Udon tasted like any other udon, except it came with a small plate of raw egg you could pour on your soup for a little added experience.

The Set 3 Sashimi has tuna, salmon, and squid (?). I'm not sure what the White one is, but it tasted a bit chewy, so I assume it's squid. I love how it came on a sushi boat. I felt like we should have opted for an all-salmon or all-tuna sashimi platter, though.

For our drinks, I got a frozen cocktail, while my husband had Jameson whisky.

The Dragon Eye Ball Rolls for me were the best. These filled us up and they were also tasty.

Ambiance & Customer Service

Since it’s a cave bar, expect gorgeous and unique interiors that will make you feel like you’re in a fancy cave. Beautiful spot. I’ll let the photos do the rest of the talking.

One of the staff members showed me around, and that's how I was able to take photos and videos. Look how beautiful the interiors are. It's gorgeous wherever you sit, and the area is well-ventilated too.

Inside, it’s cozy and quiet. Outside, you can have calming views of the sea and the whole resort. Great ambiance.

We selected a table overlooking the view, because it's not every day that we get to see such a sight, and here's how it looks from our table.

Others

I wasn’t able to take photos outside, but they have a separate area where you can watch the sunset and enjoy your drinks. It’s more of an open space with cocktail tables for guests who want to stand.

Here's a photo of their setup on the second floor.

That would be all for today. Thanks so much for stopping by, feel free to check out other posts. Bye!
