Last year's family reunion was held at the Marco Polo Plaza hotel in Cebu, so we booked a room for the duration of the event. Let's keep the intro short, here is what you can expect if you plan to stay there for a gathering or a staycation.
Marco Polo Plaza Hotel in Cebu City
This urban resort-style hotel is ideal for those who want to be away from the city. It’s quite secluded and isn’t near commercial establishments.
I looked it up out of curiosity and learned that it was built in the 1980s. It was called the Cebu Plaza Hotel, and they operated until it was closed in 2003. Then, in 2006, they renovated and reopened as part of the Marco Polo Hotels brand.

It’s approximately 30-40 minutes away from Mactan-Cebu International Airport and is best reached via private car or Grab.
First Impressions and Experience
My first impression was that it looked like the perfect retreat center- spacious and secluded. You could also tell it’s an old hotel, but a well-maintained one at that.
Check-in was quick and hassle-free. It took us only a few minutes to get our key card, and the staff members were friendly.
Look at the beautiful Christmas tree! It’s Filipino-themed.
It was around November when we went, so the lobby was already decorated in preparation for Christmas. The theme was Filipino-inspired, so they had huts, fans, and local materials used as decor for their setup.
Rooms and Layout
We booked our stay via Agoda, but you can also book it via Klook (see link below).
The bed was so comfortable that I wanted to stay in bed more, but since we had activities during those two days, we were out for the most part.
There's also a coffee station, a luggage rack, cabinets, a bar fridge, an executive desk for work, and a lounge chair with an ottoman.
As for the restroom, it’s got everything except for a bidet. Other than that, the rest was fine.
Please note that this only represents our experience with the Deluxe Suite. Other rooms may provide a different experience.
Amenities and Facilities
We weren’t able to check the amenities since we were there for the reunion activities, but they have a gym, a swimming pool, function rooms (where the reunion was held), a restaurant, a bar, and a lobby lounge. Here are some photos of the amenities from the website:
We were able to visit the lobby lounge to have after-party drinks, and it’s a cute little area where you can chit-chat. A cozy area.
Nearby Establishments
Since it’s located on a hill, there are no nearby convenience stores within walking distance. If you want to get water or order food, it is best to use the Grab mobile app. But if you want to go shopping, you can go to Ayala Center Cebu, which is 10-15 minutes away from the hotel. SM Cebu is another option- about 20 minutes away.

The Verdict
Overall, I’d give it a score of 7/10. Beautiful hotel, but other hotels can offer more value for the same amount.
