The City of Manila (not to be confused with Manila as the nation's capital) is home to some of the country's oldest historical sites, churches, and bayside establishments. But aside from that, there are also fun and educational attractions you can visit, like the one I'll be showing you today.

Discover Nature’s Wonders at The Philippine Biodome

Philippine Biodome | Review

The Philippine biodome is the country's first and only biodome. You can find it inside the spacious Manila Ocean Park, an oceanarium where you can check out sea creatures and interact with them. I made a separate guide for it that you can read here.

What is a biodome?

In simple terms, a biodome is a structure designed to represent and mimic a particular biome. So, it could be a desert, a tropical rainforest, a tundra, etc.

Since the attraction I'm showing you today is in the Philippines, you can expect to learn more about the vibrant tropical rainforest biome.

What to Expect | Our Experience

We came here the same day that we visited Manila Ocean Park, so it was nice and sunny. The first thing that greeted us was the crocodile near the entrance. It's the same one you can take photos with when you go to the crocodile tunnel on the lower ground floor.

The biodome journey begins once you get past the beaded curtains. You can start with the ground floor or the ramps heading to the different sections. Unlike in The Green Planet, where you navigate the area from top to bottom, it’s the other way around here in the Philippine Biodome.

The whole place looks good, and it's calming to be here, but it would be great if they could add more animals for visitors to see.

The Sun Conures are so pretty! I love the colors; they look so happy and vibrant. Look at these birds. They're so adorable! They’re a part of the parrot family but are not native to the Philippines. These are from the Northeastern parts of South America.

Other animals you can find inside are otters, mallard ducks, saltwater fishes, a cape fur seal, and snakes.

Watch Animal Shows at the Amphitheater

There are afternoon shows in the amphitheater where you can learn more about the featured animals (they differ depending on the time slot).

We picked the one with the Ball Python and the Philippine Eagle Owl.

You have to watch the show when you visit. It’s short but interactive. The zookeepers are very friendly and are happy to show the animals around. I like how everyone got the chance to touch the animals.

The Philippine eagle-owl is endemic to the Philippines. It’s so cute.

Why Should You Visit a Biodome?

Philippine Biodome Review

Visiting a biodome is a great way to learn about our natural ecosystems without traveling to far places. Since the plants and animals are in a controlled environment, you can see them up close and safely observe them.
