Feeling the Effects of the Global Energy Crisis | What Can We Do?

We can really feel the effects of the Middle East conflict right now. Flights all over the globe have been rescheduled or cancelled, fuel has become extremely expensive in just a short time, and we can already see the prices of goods soar as well. So many people are affected. The world is no longer the same. But I think what’s sad is that kids have died in this war. Innocent kids with dreams who have nothing to do with this mess. It’s frustrating. A real war is underway as you read what I type from your device, and civilians always suffer the most in times like this.
Energy Lockdowns
Now, as you may have already seen or heard, there have been talks about the possibility of implementing an energy lockdown as a response to the global energy crisis. Since we are all trying to save our remaining oil supply, this may be a logical solution to that. But, of course, that comes with a price. People are more psychologically distressed during a lockdown (or any situation that comes with strict restrictions). It is not good. Many brick-and-mortar businesses also lose money. I mean, there are always opportunities to earn in every crisis (some businesses boomed during the COVID-19 pandemic), but generally, prolonged lockdowns are bad for everyone's mental health. And bad mental health can lead to bad decisions, crimes, substance use, and exhaustion with life, if you know what I mean- this is why I really hope we don't get to that point. Because the mental health crisis (the invisible war we all face) will be much harder to win once this whole thing is over. Our anxiety as a nation affects our minds and collective consciousness.
The Least We Can Do in a Global Energy Crisis | Save Our Resources

There’s not much we can do about this, but we can prepare by saving resources and adjusting our lifestyles. Here are some of the things we can do to save our resources and survive our current situation:
Water
Don’t take too long in the shower, refrain from using bath tubs
Water the plants early in the morning for better absorption, not in the afternoon when it’s hot (water will evaporate quickly)
Use a glass when brushing your teeth, so you don’t keep the tap running
Turn off the faucet when not in use
Gas & Fuel
Fill up your tanks
Plan your trips when you go out. Run your errands in one trip and within the same area if possible
If your destination is within walking distance, consider walking or riding a bicycle
Avoid unnecessary local and international travel- put vacations on hold for now. Times are uncertain
Maintain steady speeds on the road and reduce the use of air conditioning if you can
Plan meals ahead of time, cook in batches, and opt for meals that don’t take hours to cook
Electricity
Turn off appliances when not in use (because they still use energy in standby mode)
If you’re using a washing machine, maximize a load. Wash in batches. You can also hand-wash tops and dresses, then only use the machine for linen and jeans to save water
Air-dry clothes after laundry
If you’re using an induction cooker, plan meals that require less cooking time
Take advantage of natural light during the day
Others
Save money- stop unnecessary spending for now and hold onto your Gold;
Work on manual skills. Learn how to build something or do basic home repairs, learn new crafts (sewing, knitting, pottery, etc.), and learn to use analog instruments (like radios)- these skills may come in handy.
That’s all for today. Writing this relieved some tension. I hope you and your family remain safe.
