Holding Back Tears Inside the Plane | Recent In-Flight Stories
Hola, today I’m just going to share two in-flight stories. That’s about it, hehe. If you’re new to the blog, hello and welcome! I’m Andi and I write about different things on this blog. Going back…here’s what we have for today.
The last phone call
Boarding the plane en route to Melbourne, someone answered a call. It was the girl behind me. She paused for a few moments, then burst into tears. Everyone in our area heard about what happened- her husband just passed away at the hospital, and she was very sad he wasn’t able to wait for her to arrive. Truly heartbreaking. She kept saying “bakit di mo ako hinintay” (this translates to “why didn’t you wait for me”). We were all teary-eyed. The emotions were too strong to ignore, and I couldn’t imagine how painful it is going to be for her to come home to a lifeless body. Mind you, I was also going to see my husband that night. I felt uneasy for a few minutes, knowing that someone would be crying on her way home while I got to see my partner. Diba, nakakalungkot din kung iisipin mo. It reminded me how fast things can change, and how fragile life can be. She was less than 9 hours away. So close. And then just like that, he was gone.
My seatmate ate my Chicken Teriyaki
Now, I'd like to share another story to lighten the mood. Someone ate my order. Yup haha, well she didn’t mean to, but here’s what happened.
When it was time for the flight attendants to take our orders, everyone in our row got something. I asked for Chicken Teriyaki, my seatmate asked for Chicken Menudo, and the one by the window asked for Chicken Green Curry. We all heard our orders because we were right beside each other (obviously hehe). The FA then told us it would take about 20-30 minutes to serve the meals, so I napped, went to the restroom, and stood up to stretch my legs.
When I came back, both my seatmates were already eating, and I saw the girl beside me have Chicken Teriyaki. I didn’t think much of it since she could have just changed her order while I was up, but apparently she ate what was supposed to be mine. She then smiled at me. It was more of an “oops” smile. Di naman ako nainis kasi yung pagkakasmile nya medyo kengkoy. Natawa lang ako kasi ang laki laki ng font dun sa packaging, tingin ko tuloy yun talaga gusto nya kainin hahaha.
Different realities in one plane
One thing I like about traveling (or long drives when I get the chance to watch what's around me) is that it humbles me. I am always reminded how big the world is, how someone works harder somewhere out there, or how different our ways of living are. We share the same image as humans, but have unique minds and have different realities. Interesting.
