Some Fun Little Moments that I Still Remember to this Day

One of the things I'll always be grateful for is my childhood. I had plenty of wonderful experiences as a young girl and a teenager- even during the awkward phases. Life was simpler then, but it also felt richer because we had fewer distractions.

If it's not apparent yet, I'm feeling a sense of nostalgia (feel free to check other articles if you think this will bore you). So today, I'll share three fun little moments that came to mind recently.

  • Playing & pausing cassette tapes | 90s entertainment

I can still remember constantly playing and pausing cassette tapes in my childhood to write the lyrics of the songs I listened to. I had a bunch of Christmas tapes, as well as ones from popular singers, like Britney Spears and Carol Banawa (a Filipino singer). Having to listen intently to write the correct lyrics on bond paper taught me patience. I guess many 90s kids can relate to this. Those were the days! If I remember correctly, I was in grade school at that time. And then came the popularity of CDs- music records, DVDs, and rewritable ones that you can use to burn music onto. That, for me, was kind of the golden age of entertainment. Going to video rental stores and shopping for CDs at the nearest Odyssey or Astro Vision was an experience in itself.

CD players were, of course, also popular. We had the typical chunky one that you could carry around. They are obsolete now, but there are new ones that you can use if you want that good old retro feeling, like this turntable CD player. It’s cute and aesthetically pleasing.

  • Rambutan fruit bayad

Okay, so this one’s not from my childhood, but I thought it was a bit funny, hehe. One weekend, when I was in college, my roommate and I went to the local market to grab a few things. We bought some fruits and other random items from the little stores.

We rode a jeepney to get back to the university dorm (which is only 2-3 minutes away), and as we were trying to get coins from our pockets, we both realized we had none anymore. We ran out of cash! And of course, we freaked out a bit. We need something to pay the driver with. So, I kindly asked him if we could take a portion of the rambutan fruit I got, since we honestly didn't have money to pay for the fare. Luckily, he agreed! Mind you, we were embarrassed about it, but we couldn't leave the man empty-handed. At least the fruits cost more than the actual fare, so I guess that's not too bad. Matamis naman yung mga rambutan na nabili ko hehe.

Kath and I laughed about it when we got home, and we still keep that fond memory up to this day.

  • Misa de Gallo

In the Philippines, we have a holiday tradition to complete Misa de Gallo- these are early morning masses that start 9 days before Christmas. I completed this in our local church for a while during my high school years, and to be honest, that was because I had a special request. I was praying for something. Believe it or not, I got what I prayed for (too personal to share), and I think that's one of the moments that taught me the power of a strong faith.

So yeah, that's it hehe. I still have a treasure trove of different stories, but I guess that's it for now.

How about you? What are some fun little moments that still make you smile up to this day?
