7 Healthy Habits You Can Start Today

Whether you’re in your teens, 20s, 30s, or even 40s, it’s never too late to develop good habits to benefit your mind, body, and soul.

Here are seven healthy habits you can start today:

1) Drink water in the morning

Have a tumbler on your bedside table for easy access in the morning. There are many benefits to drinking water after waking up. Some of these include removing toxins in the body, as well as promoting a healthy gut and a clear complexion. Staying hydrated helps prevent headaches too.

2) Express gratitude

In these trying times, it’s important to make gratitude a habit. There are still plenty of things to be thankful for despite the global crisis and the rest that’s happening in our nation and around us. When you practice thankfulness regularly, you’ll sleep better, manage stress well, and have a greater sense of appreciation for life in general. You’ll complain less and do more.

3) Read good books

The media you consume contributes to your beliefs and how you see the world. With this, it’s crucial to feed your mind with information that’s positive and valuable. One way to do this is by reading books that are not only relevant to your interests but beneficial to your self-improvement as well, like motivational or inspirational ones.

4) Check up on your close friends

The new normal has changed the way we socialize with others. Most communication is now done online. While interpersonal interaction is still best when it comes to maintaining personal connections, it doesn’t hurt to resort to video messaging applications, most especially if you live far from family and friends. Make it a habit to catch up with your peers and see how they’re doing. It's always nice to keep meaningful friendships.

5) Take care of your oral health

Aside from the usual advice to eat vegetables and be consistent with work-outs, another good habit to develop is to take care of your oral health. Avoid frequent trips to the dentist and save a lot of money (and some dental pain) simply by brushing your teeth and flossing regularly. Reduce your sugar intake too, if you can. According to All-Star Dental Clinic, sugar does not directly cause cavities, but it feeds the bad bacteria in the mouth, which produces the acid that hurts teeth enamel.

6) Write and revisit your goals weekly

Writing down your goals can help you visualize them better. It also helps you focus your energies on the right things instead of being all over the place. Of course, revisiting your goals is just as important to keep you going in the right direction. You can do this monthly if you’re busy, or you can also do it daily or weekly (I prefer weekly).

7) Exercise at least 3 times a week

Many, if not the majority of us, are now working from home, and it’s easy to just fall into the trap of working, eating, then sleeping. But remember that keeping the body healthy is essential for optimum performance. If you’re not an athletic person (like me lol), exercising at least three times a week is enough to maintain good well-being. It’s easier to stick with this schedule, too. But if you can do it every day, then that's great!

According to renowned self-development author Brian Tracy, it takes 21 days to make or break habits of medium complexity. So I’m sure you can do these easy ones. They are manageable, most especially with the help of a habit tracker. Plus, none of it requires spending!

These healthy habits you can start today are easy and doable. I hope you find something that suits your lifestyle. That would be all. I’ll see you in the next blog post. Stay safe and stay well ♡
