A good life lesson to keep in mind is to avoid the unhappy and the unlucky- this can actually make a big difference in your life. These exact words are from Robert Greene's The 48 Laws of Power, but there are many variations of this saying that I'm sure you're familiar with. Basically, it's best to surround yourself with people who are enthusiastic and have a positive outlook in life, rather than those who constantly attract negativity.

So…

In the book, Robert Greene shared examples from history, but I’m just going to share this part because it already sums up the whole idea.

Energy is Contagious | "Avoid the Unhappy and the Unlucky"

The unfortunate sometimes draw misfortune on themselves; they will also draw it on you. Associate with the happy and fortunate instead.

I very much agree with this.

Problems and challenges are inevitable. We all go through hardships at different points in our lives, and so do the people around us.

But if you notice, there are those who constantly -knowingly or unknowingly- attract a great deal of unnecessary drama or bring misfortune to themselves. It could be due to unwise decisions, excessive gossiping, complaining, or having a very negative disposition. I'm talking about the intense type, the kind that most would refer to as energy vampires, and if you hang around them for too long, they can suck the life out of you.

A few more examples of energy vampires:

  • Those who constantly attract chaos or have a negative pattern of experiences/long line of messed-up relationships;

  • People who gossip excessively/makes a lot of backhanded comments about the lives of other people;

  • Those who use drama and gossip to “bond” with others;

  • Those who perpetually play victim in situations they created and manipulate others to get sympathy;

  • Those who focus on the bad things in their lives and always find faults in other people;

  • Those who have a hero complex and then end up making things worse;

  • Drama kings and queens- those who make a big deal out of everything and can’t live without drama/constantly attract drama.

Simply put, energy vampires drain you mentally and emotionally. If you've already met such a person or two in this lifetime, you know how debilitating it is to be around such an individual.

Energy is Contagious and Emotions are Powerful

I think the best reason why you should avoid the unlucky and the unhappy is that emotions are powerful- they carry infectious energy that can be beneficial or destructive, depending on their nature.

Positive emotions create favorable circumstances and attract good opportunities, while negative energy attracts drama and pulls you down. The same goes for the kind of people it brings- this is why miserable people usually hang out with each other, and why gossipmongers get along. Or why people who have the same hobbies or personal values come together. Now, the question is, who do you want to surround yourself with?

I guess that's it for today. Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you have a great week ahead!
