La Paz Sand Dunes: A Guide

No long intros, here’s what you need to know before you enjoy the 85-square kilometer desert beach in Ilocos Norte. A. Going to Ilocos Norte If you’re from Manila, go to Partas Cubao or Pasay then ride a bus heading to Laoag. Since it’s going to be a long trip, it would be best if you take the Luxury bus for total comfort. It has a movable bus tablet with 1 USB charger slot, two earphone slots, and enough leg room for you cause it has lesser seats. To skip long lines, you can book online via Biyaheroes.

For those who will be coming from other places, all you have to do is to look for the nearest Partas station and do the same.

Alight at Partas Laoag (the last stop). From there, you can ride a tricycle going to your hotel.

B. Looking for a Place to Stay

For accommodation, I suggest that you stay at Hotel Asuncion. It’s located near different establishments and is very accessible for commuting travelers (only 7 minutes away from Partas Laoag station). Below are pros and cons for your information:

Pros: Rate is inclusive of breakfast (your choice of Filipino or Continental breakfast + 1 drink)

Food tastes good, you’ll love the coffee too!

You’re literally a few steps away from the supermarket (it’s right beside the hotel)

Good service; employees are cheerful, polite, and helpful

Beds are comfortable and the linens smell good

Many cable channels (some have limited so I’ve included this in the pros)

Cons: No elevator (can be tiring to walk up after a long day)

No internet during our stay (had to rely on mobile data, which was also slow because of the signal). If you're doing business while on vacation, maybe pick a better hotel. Surrounding area is not safe for trolling

C. Going to La Paz Sand Dunes, “The Dessert of the North”

The best way to get there is to rent a tricycle. We rented ours for only Php 250.00 (back and forth). If you’re staying near the provincial capitol, it will only take you 20-30 minutes going to La Paz.

Once you’re in the vicinity, all you have to do is go to the registration booth and sign the waiver to start your sand dunes adventure! Rate is 2,500 (per 4x4 car) for seven kilometers of fun, sun, and sand.

It was definitely an experience for the books! You’ll surely love it! Remember to keep a tight grip on the handle though, the ride's quite fast and it's always best to be cautious.

D. What to Do Next?
